In order for customers to receive updates for the software, you will have to edit the product and provide the new information on the product edit screen. It is important that you change at least the Software Version, Last Updated, and the Update file. Here is how to do it:
- Go to the Products page on WordPress admin
- Click on the product you want to update
- Cick on the License tab and edit the the details as follows:
Software Version – Edit this field and increment the version number so that it is greater than the current version
Update file – Provide a new update file to be served as the update file. Ensure the URL is different from the current one otherwise the change will be ignored.
Last updated – Provide a date on which the software was last updated
Additionally, update the changelog and the other software details like required and compatible PHP and WordPress versions if necessary. Save the changes by clicking the ‘Update’ or ‘Publish’ button.
Important notes about update file
Specify a new update file with a URL that is different from the current update file. If the update file URL is the same as the previous one, the current file will continue to be served until a different update file URL is provided. The new update file will also be added to the Downloadable files section in the General tab.
