Description
Sell software from your own WooCommerce store
License Server for WooCommerce turns your store into a self-hosted licensing, updates and subscription platform for WordPress plugins and themes. It generates license keys, delivers updates, bills renewals and runs your support desk, all from the store you already own. You don’t need a marketplace, an extra billing service or a revenue share.
License keys that run themselves
- Automatic delivery. A key is generated when the order completes. It is emailed to the customer and appears in their account right away.
- Activation limits per plan. Offer single-site, multi-site or unlimited licenses. The Variable Software product type lets you sell tiers such as Personal, Business and Agency, each with its own price, activation limit and renewal period.
- Separate staging limits. Staging activations are counted separately from live sites, so customers can test without using up a production slot.
- Your own key format. Choose segmented, compact, extended or classic hash keys, add a prefix and suffix, and pick a readable character set without lookalike characters such as 0/O.
- Full control. You can generate or renew keys from the order screen, extend expiry dates, revoke a domain, and delete licenses automatically when an order is refunded.
Automatic updates in wp-admin
- Plugins and themes update with one click in the customer’s dashboard, like any plugin from WordPress.org.
- The plugin information panel shows your version, compatibility, changelog, installation notes and banners.
- Downloads are authenticated against a valid license, and expired licenses stop receiving updates.
- A drop-in PHP client library adds licensing and updates to your plugin or theme in a few lines of code.
Built-in subscriptions
Recurring billing is built in. You don’t need a separate subscriptions extension.
- Sell one-time and recurring products side by side, billed by the day, week, month or year.
- Add free trials, sign-up fees and sale prices on sign-up or renewal fees.
- A successful renewal extends the license automatically, and a subscription that ends expires the license with it.
- Failed payments are retried automatically, and an optional grace period gives customers time to update their card before they lose access.
- You decide whether customers can pause, cancel or renew early. You can also set a minimum term and limit customers to one subscription per product.
Payments with 0% platform fees
Stripe, PayPal, Payfast and Polar are included. All four handle one-time payments, subscriptions and refunds, and they work with both the classic and block-based WooCommerce checkout. You pay only your payment processor’s standard rate.
Protect your software
Optional DRM in the client library reminds unlicensed users with escalating notices in wp-admin, counts down a grace period, and then locks your plugin’s admin screens behind a page that links to buying or activating a license. It never touches the front end of the site, so your customers’ visitors are never affected.
A self-service customer account
- License Keys: customers can copy keys, see live and staging activations, remove domains and renew a license that is expiring or expired.
- Subscriptions: customers can see the next payment date and pause, resume, cancel or renew early.
- Support: customers can open and follow tickets without leaving your site.
- API Key and Composer: customers can install and update your plugins with
composer require, authenticated by their license key. - License recovery: customers who have lost their keys can request them by email without logging in.
Built-in support desk
Run your helpdesk from your store with ticket priorities, categories and agent assignment. Agents see each customer’s licenses and subscriptions next to the ticket. You can require a valid license key to open a ticket and rate-limit guest submissions to keep spam out.
Reports that show the health of your business
- The dashboard shows total and active licenses, revenue, active subscriptions, top products and revenue trends for any date range.
- Reports cover ARPU, churn, activation rate and refund rate, plus new vs. renewal revenue, revenue by product and your top customers by lifetime spend.
- An activity log records activations, payments, API requests and admin actions, so you can troubleshoot quickly.
19 ready-made emails
The plugin adds WooCommerce emails for license activation, expiry reminders, renewals, reaching the activation limit, subscription changes, support replies and license recovery, plus a daily summary for admins. You can edit and override every email in your theme.
Move from your current platform
Bring your products, licenses and activations with you from Envato (CodeCanyon/ThemeForest), License Manager for WooCommerce, WooCommerce Software Add-on or WooCommerce API Manager. Imports run in the background, show their progress and can be re-run safely. Your customers can also import their own Envato purchase codes from their account.
Built for developers
A full REST API covers licenses, subscriptions, support and customer accounts. Actions and filters throughout the plugin, plus support for custom payment gateways, let you extend the server to fit your workflow.
